Is There A Book In You? – Cambridge Event Explores What It Takes To Be A Published Author

Budding female authors are invited to learn what it takes to write a novel at an event to be held in Cambridge next week.

‘Is There A Book In You?’, a joint event between Cambridge Businesswomen’s Network (CBN) and the Association of Women in Science and Engineering (AWISE), is being hosted by St Mary’s School, in Bateman Street on Thursday 22nd November, starting at 6.30pm.

The evening will feature two speakers – Kate Kirk and Louisa Reid – both published authors, who will talk about what inspired them to write, the challenges of the process and the joys!

Kate Kirk is the author of The Cambridge Phenomenon which has enjoyed major success since its publication in May and will be the launch book at this year’s Wordfest. Kate is also a successful ghost writer and a mature student at Cambridge.

Louisa Reid, an English teacher at St Mary’s School, published her first novel Black Heart Blue earlier this year to rave reviews. A powerful fiction novel aimed at young adults, Black Heart Blue is the tragic story of twin sisters who try to escape their abusive parents.

Also on hand to offer advice on what to do with your manuscript will be Sally Simmons, the co-founder and director of Cambridge Editorial. Sally has frequently been the ghost author and co-author of books and works closely with writers to develop their material.

Routes to publishing will also be discussed and the evening will include an activity for everyone to join in and have fun whilst networking.

This annual event, co-organised by CBN and AWISE and hosted by St Mary’s, enables Sixth Form girls to talk with people working in business areas that they may be interested in for the future and also to find mentors.

The event costs £26 and include a hot buffet supper with pudding, wine and coffee (£20 for CBN and AWISE members) and £5 for students. Please click here to book.  Booking closes on Tuesday 20th November.
