Assassins inside us – secret agents with a licence to kill!
30th January 2014, 6pm – 7pm, Lucy Cavendish College.
A talk by Professor Gillian Griffiths FRS, Director of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research
- Enemies trying to invade from without… and within…
- Secret agents with a licence to kill (cells that have turned existing structures into lethal weapons)
- Intricate mechanisms to keep these snipers in check
- Special effects capturing all the action, in slow motion and magnificent magnification
The following video shows killer cells in action:
We’ll also hear Gillian’s own story: finding a legendary mentor in Cesar Milstein, doing the most focused research whilst bringing up small children, and gaining her FRS in 2013 for her ‘elegant and insightful’ science.
A story that will make you fall in love with science all over again! (watch this space for the film franchise)…
