CamAWiSE Coordinator: Rukshana Jaman
CamAWISE has given me the flexibility to work around looking after my child and allowing me to be part of great women and interesting events. It has given me an opportunity to expand my network and meet new people and I’m really enjoying organising the various events they put on.
I have enjoyed working for organisations that give something back to the community and work to make our world a better place. I worked for Allia (Future Business Centre Cambridge) for five years who work with entrepreneurs and businesses that aim to make positive change for people, planet and place. I started as the new centre opened, working on Reception and then moved into HR.
Before moving to Cambridge I worked at Verifile (HR Analyst , Policy Specialist), who specialise in CV verification and background screening checks. It was really interesting to understand the accuracy of information candidates provide on their CV’s regarding their work experience and qualifications.
I spend a lot of my spare time around family, that is very important. I enjoy cooking, doing Zumba and yoga though don’t find the time to do it much! I like to meet my friends for a good old catch up whenever I visit my hometown.
What would be one of your biggest aspirations?
To be able to travel to countries to visit homeless children and be able to make a positive difference to their lives.
Advice you would give to female scientists and engineers?
Don’t shy away from pursuing a career in STEMM nor let anyone or anything hold you back, do it for yourself and to inspire other women!
