Are you looking to turn your passion for women in STEMM into an exciting career opportunity?

Are you motivated to help a growing network gain visibility and make a difference in the Cambridge community?

Join the team!

Cambridge Association for Women in Science and Engineering (CamAWiSE) is a regional network established to help retain and improve the representation of women in Science, Engineering, Technology, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) in industry and academia. We run a broad range of talks, workshops and networking meetings, and keep our members informed about events and relevant information of interest to them.

The successful candidate will have a positive and friendly attitude and good interpersonal skills. They will need to be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as with a wide variety of people. The applicant should have excellent administrative skills, good communication and writing skills, active use of social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram – we’re happy to show you the ropes) and be confident in using internet applications. Experience of events organisation and maintaining websites would be highly desirable. A STEMM background would be an advantage, though not a requisite.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • responding to email enquiries and taking action as necessary, or forwarding to appropriate Steering Committee members
  • creating and circulating the CamAWiSE monthly newsletter
  • co-organising, publicising and attending events; writing up meeting reports and collating event feedback
  • reporting back to the CamAWiSE Steering Committee regularly and attending Steering Committee meetings (every four to six weeks, in the evening)
  • liaising with members regarding membership enquiries and renewals, and maintaining the membership database

Hours of work per week will be flexible (2-3 days per week). Evening work will be required for meetings and events. It is preferred, though not a prerequisite, that candidates have a base in or the surrounding areas or villages of Cambridge. The successful applicant would be self-employed and a mixture of working from home and on location. The contract will initially run until November 2020 and there will be opportunity for a rolling renewal for a further 11 month periods. You will receive a fee of £5.6k over an 11 month contract. Term-time working would be acceptable.

This position offers a great opportunity to develop your skills and create your own strong network. In addition, the Steering Committee is a fun and devoted team of women who welcome the opportunity to work with you and incorporate your own innovative ideas and feedback to help our Association thrive.
