‘What Next for your Career in Science?’

Annual Cambridge AWiSE/LMB joint event and lunch

Tuesday 9th June 2015, 12pm – 2pm. Max Perutz lecture theatre, MRC-LMB, Francis Crick Avenue, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Recent female LMB Alumni share their experiences and advice of making the next step in their career in Academic, Biotechnology and Scientific Publishing roles.

The speakers are:

Katherine Brown, the Executive Editor of Development
Following her PhD at the LMB in 2000 with Matthew Freeman, she moved to the EMBL-Heidelberg where she worked with Jochen Wittbrodt. In late 2008, she left the bench to take up a role as a Scientific Editor at the EMBO Journal, before moving to her current position with The Company of Biologists in Cambridge at the end of 2011. Katherine has extensive experience in publishing and is involved in multiple aspects of running a journal.

Milka Sarris, Group Leader at PDN, University of Cambridge
After completing her PhD studies at the LMB in 2009, Milka moved to the Institut Pasteur, Paris. In 2014, she was awarded an MRC Career Development award and established her own research group. Her group investigates how cells navigate in complex tissue environments using high-resolution live imaging combined with sophisticated genetic manipulations.

Elise Bernard, Peptide Chemist at MedImmune
Elise obtained her PhD from the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine in Nancy, France. After two postdoctoral positions she joined a biotechnology company in Paris. In 2009, this company was sold and she joined the LMB as a Postdoc in Greg Winter’s team where she worked developing new bicyclic peptides. This work was substantial to establishing Bicycle Therapeutics.

The panel discussion (12-1pm) will be followed by a buffet lunch and networking. Free event: This meeting is kindly sponsored by the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
