Assassins inside us – secret agents with a licence to kill!

30th January 2014, 6pm – 7pm, Lucy Cavendish College.

A talk by Professor Gillian Griffiths FRS, Director of the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research

Gillian Griffiths

Gillian Griffiths

Featuring:

  • Enemies trying to invade from without… and within…
  • Secret agents with a licence to kill (cells that have turned existing structures into lethal weapons)
  • Intricate mechanisms to keep these snipers in check
  • Special effects capturing all the action, in slow motion and magnificent magnification

The following video shows killer cells in action:

We’ll also hear Gillian’s own story: finding a legendary mentor in Cesar Milstein, doing the most focused research whilst bringing up small children, and gaining her FRS in 2013 for her ‘elegant and insightful’ science.

A story that will make you fall in love with science all over again! (watch this space for the film franchise)…

You are welcome to attend Formal Hall straight after the talk, but you will need to book and pay by Thursday January 23rd.
